* How to use the GUI

Using prismstumbler is quite easy: It should be able to detect your
wireless LAN interface automatically in most cases. If it is not able
to find any interface it will tell you on startup. The button bar on
top of the main window provides basic functions to use prismstumbler
while the menu offes extended functionality. The meaning of the
buttons (from left to right) are:
1. Preferences: Prismstumbler setup (delay and files).
2. Toggle dump: Toggles if captured packets are written to a dump file.
3. Toggle scanner: Switches wireless LAN scanner on/off.
4. Exit: Close Prismstumbler.

Additionally the menu provides functions to load/save setup, connect
to a wireless LAN and to observe a selected net (track). If
connecting to wireless LAN prismstumbler tries to get an IP address
using DHCP. If "jump to active" is selected prismstumbler automatically
scrolls the list to any net that shows activity.
The "Detail" tab provides all gathered information about the net
selected in "Browser" tab. The "Control" tab is used to set up
parameters for scanner manually and shows current settings. Finally
the "Status" tab contains a message window and status about GPS
receiver (if available).
Network data will be saved on exit, it will be automatically restored
on next start.

* Supported hardware

Basically all cards with Intersils Prism2.x chipset should work as
well as Lucent/Agere cards and similar. Prismstumbler supports
hostap, hermes/orinoco and wlan-ng driver in monitor mode. To enable
monitor mode in orinoco cards you need a driver patch that is
available here:
http://airsnort.shmoo.com/orinocoinfo.html
Other wireless LAN cards that don't work in monitor mode may
work somewhat limited in "scan" mode.
